John is a native Floridian, born in Clearwater Florida. John graduated from The Florida State University College of Law in April 2002, where he was the Legislative Editor of the Law Review and an Executive Editor of the Business Review.  Prior to law school, John graduated from the University of Maryland, and interned with United States Senator Frank R. Lautenberg and also with the Walt Disney Company.

After law school John accepted a prestigious in-house counsel position with a south Florida technology company, Seisint, Inc. Seisint developed supercomputer technology and aggregated data for large business and law enforcement use. As Corporate Counsel, John advised key executives on matters ranging from privacy law to employment matters, in addition to negotiating and preparing millions of dollars worth of sales and service agreements.

In what Fortune Magazine named the “Deal of the Year,” Seisint was sold to LexisNexis for $775 million dollars in 2004. After playing a key role in merger and acquisition due diligence and corporate integration, John became the Director and Senior Corporate Counsel of the LexisNexis Risk and Information Analytics Group and part of the LexisNexis Global Legal Department. There John developed an expertise in fraud prevention, security, and data regulatory and privacy laws, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Drivers’ Privacy and Protection Act, and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. In addition to leading a legal team that negotiated and prepared hundreds of millions of dollars annually in sales contracts, John participated in the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law’s group of experts meetings on fraud and fraud prevention.

In 2007 John left LexisNexis to join a trial law firm in Tampa, Florida specializing in property disputes and sinkhole litigation. Having developed a strong background in sinkhole and property insurance litigation, John has litigated over 1,000 sinkhole cases and negotiated settlements in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, including defeating State Farm in a jury trial with a 6 figure verdict. John also became involved in defending homeowners against predatory lenders and in foreclosure defense.  In summer 2009 John formed his own law firm, Byrne Law, and a separate public adjusting company, SinkTeam, where he continues to assist homeowners in maximizing their recovery in property insurance claims.

John resides in south Tampa with his wife Laura.  John has been a member of the Tampa Bay Seminole Club board of directors since 2009, and John is also a member of the Italian Club of Tampa as well as the Krewe of Italia.
